A freak snowstorm
in August 1999 dumped eight inches of snow on myself and my
friend Travis as we backpacked through a high mountain pass
near the Pipestone River north of Lake Louise. While we
nervously skirted around fresh grizzly tracks, the sun came
out and began to melt away the snow around the flowers. This Indian Paintbrush was one of the first to melt off
completely though I was only able to take four shots before
the snow around it caved in.
